In the Shop (July 27, 2020)

On Monday headed to Joe's Cycle Shop in Dayton, Ohio. my wife drove the Civic and I rode the bike seen here below at Hollywood Casino. She likes to play there, and I wander and take photos while we waited for the nearby motorcycle shop to open. It is 10 miles from my house (the bike shop, the casino is a couple of miles closer. Anyhow, got that in the shop and we rode back in the Honda. As noted in last post, interesting and unique problem. Havent seen this one before. I expect it to be in there for a while, the worst time of year to need a motorcycle repair is in the summer. However, lacking either the knowledge or the proper tools to fix this problem, this is my option at this time. For the forseeable future, will be going to plan b...which can be seen at my Ohio and Me blog page.

Houston we Have a Problem (July 25, 2020)

Interesting problem came up on this Saturday. Seeing my chain needed some adjustment went to loosen the axle nut which was...frozen solid. I worked at it for a while, finally decided to ride out to Joe's Cycle Shop in Dayton. However, the mechanics had taken the day off so back home I went. Did get this photo of the lake. Worked on getting it loose with a friend but we had to luck getting it loose. Hell of a thing.   I can get it back in the shop on Monday. Sucks but these things happen.

In Search of the Best Fish and Chips in Ohio (July 24, 2020)

Good Friday ride. I was reading that The Pub has the best fish and chips in Ohio according to a British beer brewer and went on a ride to just locate it. Found it with no problems and got a couple of photos (at left and directly below). Its in a area called "The Greene". Nothing was open yet (too early for lunch anyhow as this was like 9am) but was more for the ride. Three more photos below. I did stop for a piece of pie and some coffee at Lefty's in Fairborn which can be seen at the very bottom photo. Ride today was 41 miles on a beautiful day in Ohio. Enjoyed getting out though did near The Greene run into some road construction. Good they are working on the roads, just did not imagine they would work on all of them at once. That said though, sure need it badly. Thank you for visiting my page.

Sunday Morning Cruise (July 19, 2020)

Up on this sunny and very warm Sunday. For the first time in years, rode without a helmet. Not sure why (the heat maybe). Won't be a habit, was a different experience, but feel better and safer with one on. Made a stop in Fairborn at the old log house. Like that town a lot, and this is a unique thing to see.
Went back to George Rogers Clark Park. Saw the Daniel Hertzler House which was built in 1854. Daniel was believed to be rich, so robbers broke in and murdered him while in search of money on October 10, 1867. Guess having one of the bigger houses in the area, was not such as good idea. I also got a photo of the monument and the remains with a photo of an old cabin also on the grounds. That cabin was there in the time the Hertzler house was built, as the old photo shows. Ride today was short and just covered 25 miles. Nice to get out in the wind though before the heat and humidity really gets bad.

Saturday in the City (July 18, 2020)

Second day in a row, got the motorcycle out. As you can see from the photos, beautiful blue skies and a fine day to be out in the breeze. Really did not have a destination, got out for a quick hour ride. Covered a total distance of 30 miles. Started with a quick stop to Casey's for fuel and a couple of items.
Stopped by this mall for a quick look. Had read the Hallmark store was closed, and found that...yes it was. Rode around Huber Heights for a bit, up 202 and then down Needmore to the Air Force Museum. I did not stop but just rode by, and then into Fairborn and back home. It was damn nice to get out and enjoyed the ride a great deal.

George Rogers Clark Park Ride (July 17, 2020)

Small accident on the last ride (just my bike) was a real wake up call. Let my attention slip and could have been ugly. This morning as the ankle is better, got out to get "back in the saddle. First such event in 63 years of riding. Glad to say, I am ok with it. Felt good to be out again. Got an hour ride and 28 miles of riding in down some country roads. Part of the ride was in George Rogers Clark Park, where I got these photos. Nice early in the morning and really felt good to get out on this early Friday.

Canal Lock Park, Tipp City, Ohio (July 14, 2020)

Took a 30 mile ride to Tipp City, Ohio today, mainly because it was there. It was an easy ride on what is expected to be the last comfortable day of low heat and humidity. I enjoy this park which I have some photos of below. Signs to explain what it is, and a photo of the canal and a (I believe it is a replica) Canal Boat. The canal system was for a time a very important transportation system in much of Ohio. I enjoy history and enjoy the visits to this park as well as Tipp City. There are some interesting things to see there, as well as some really good restaurants to visit. Speaking of visits, thanks for visiting here. During the ride had a minor accident, which ended up scraping and spraining an ankle. No damage at all to the motorcycle, which is a blessing. Glad to be ok, will be a good wake up call!

Out in the Country (July 11, 2020)

Got out on an early Saturday morning, on a ride which started in Fairborn. As visitors know, I like this town. Stopped by this bar for the photo, cool looking decorations there. It was not open and in fact would not be for hours. I did get out in the country from there, nice back road ride. I got some photos of horses below, which I thought were pretty cool. Originally being from Kentucky, I tend to like horses. Finally took a last photo at the Medway Cemetery. It was nice riding with the temperature and humidity down. Got in around 35 miles on the Saturday ride. Looking forward to the next one, thanks for visiting.

Toasty !!! (July 9, 2020)

Last few days (think its been a week) the area has been under an intense heat wave. High heat and humidity which is one reason why the rides have been early. This morning got out and got a country ride in. First stop of course was the New Carlisle Airport where this plane was being refueled. I also got a quick hangar shot.
Headed out though New Carlisle and down some very nice country roads. Kept thinking of the song "City of New Orleans" cause I was passing a few of the sights in that song.
Near the end of the ride back in the neighborhood, came across some geese crossing the road. A common sight here, they really seemed to get pissed at my disturbing them. One of the adult birds let me know not to do that again. The ducks though in the last photo were much more laid back.
Todays ride was 33 miles and I enjoyed every one of them. Looking forward to the next adventure.

Riding around Yellow Springs, Ohio (July 7, 2020)

Before the heat and humidity get bad, rode out to Yellow Springs. Neat and very interesting town with a lot of interesting sites to visit. I enjoy going there and as they are currently requiring masks it is comfortable going there as well. Visited a number of sites there. I was there before it was opened, getting out before the heat and humidity build. Summer is certainly upon us. Ride today was 45 miles and enjoyed it a great deal. The last photo was taken in Fairborn on the way home of an airport control tower.

Riding on the 4th of July (July 4, 2020)

Interesting ride once again down some roads I have not ever traveled. This one I had, its New Carlisle, Ohio on this 4th of July. Out early and saw some cool sights. I saw a groundhog, hawks, various farm animals and horses, and of course the critter directly below. Pretty much owned the roads as you can see. Came across a tribute to the armed forces got a kick out of the "Space Force" emblem. Sure looks like it was lifted out of Star Trek. Great ride though and a wonderful start to the day.

Ride to the End of 201 (July 3, 2020)

Good morning to get out, as the heat builds and the humidity rises. I was out at 7:30 am to check out some more of the new roads (for me at least) to be found here in my part of Ohio. It is a beautiful area to ride in with a number of farms, fields and interesting critters to visit with. For instance check out the third and fourth photos below. You won't see those everyday in a lot of places in America.
As I was heading out to Addison-Carlisle Road I saw the plane in the bottom photo flying around the area. The airport is not far from there, but got that photo near the end of the ride. I love the old biplanes. Course saw some of those at the National Museum of the United States Air Force which I visited yesterday. There are a few of those photos on my Ohio and Me page. The Museum is a wonderful and magical place.
So too is this state. Rode and got the photo at left and directly below plus a few other roads. Last few rides have been taking the "road less traveled" since my wife and I took our trip to St. Mary's, Ohio  a few days ago. As for me, put a few more miles on the motorcycle which is now just a few miles short of 10, 600 on the odometer. It was a great day and a damn fine ride.

Last Ride of 2023 (October 27, 2023)

End of the ride here at home, sights below are during the ride. cCme across the Harley and the sidecar at the gas station. Talked with owner...
