Sunday Country Ride (July 28, 2019)

Good time on this bright and sunny Sunday as you can see at left. I had driven these roads with my wife Debbie in the car, thought it would be fun to ride them on the motorcycle. Seems I was totally correct. Very nice riding and enjoyed getting out among the farms in the area. To get to these, rode out to Enon, Ohio and then took the back roads behind them.
Got a little bit lost but in a good way as I came out at Yellow Springs, Ohio. Have been there before and its a very cool town. I was able to find a sign to Young's Dairy which was my ultimate destination, and was successful in finding that.
In fact, this is Young's Dairy to the left here. Very interesting place and a fun stop. It is also very popular with a lot of things to do. Animals to feed, a batting cage, putt putt golf, some fine restaurants, outstanding ice cream are among the many things to do there.
I was able to check out the original tractors there (with the dates on them directly below as well as what type they are), visited with the goats and even for the first time saw the cows. They have the milking area but never had seen them there. Read they milk them in the afternoon but let them out in the morning. Luckily I was there early and there they are in the photos below.
Later on made the ride back to Enon, again via those back roads past the farms. I also made a stop at the Indian Mound there and got fuel before heading back to the house. I really enjoyed this ride, as well as yesterdays, though was only half the distance of that one. Still, with a two day total of over 90 miles, not a bad couple of rides.

Country Ride on a fine Saturday morning (July 27, 2019)

Nice day for a ride and got out early before the heat got back up there. Went to some interesting places up Ohio 571. Photo at left was near the end at the airport in New Carlisle. I also went to Tipp City, even to Nashville of all places (did not know there was a Nashville in Ohio, but I do now) and West Milton. Ended up covering some 61 miles and that was a great deal of fun.
Temperatures were just under 70 degrees as I got out, did get warmer during the two hours I was gone but stayed nice. No rain was expected and none fell. It was a great time for a wonderful ride on the motorcycle.

US 40 to the Airport (July 19, 2019)

Second day in a row, got out before the heat got real bad and got my knees in the breeze. Just out to get a ride in, no real destination planned. Got headed out on US 40 which is also known as "The National Road".
That took me out to Vandalia and made a cruise real quick though the airport. They are doing a lot of construction there on the terminal but after that did did a quick shot of the control tower there. I find it kind of interesting and a neat thing to see there. Was just there a few weeks ago with my wife at the Dayton Air Show. I have photos of that at my "Ohio and Me" Page which is part of this site.
After that headed back the same route. Was keeping an eye on the sky for even though rain chances are low they are now at zero.
Got back after a 40 mile ride which was very nice though the heat started to build at the end.

Dayton Ride (July 18, 2019)

Amazingly hot day here in Ohio, been a heat wave the past few days with some of the hottest temperatures in years. Got up relatively early and took the motorcycle out for a cruise into Dayton. I have not been there a lot and it was well past time to get a good ride in there.  Made my destination Deeds Point Metropark to see the statue there of the Wright Flyer III which is above and the fountains that can be seen below. They actually light up at night. I have not seen that, but plan to in the future. Got quite a few photos here of sights in Dayton. I also visited the ballpark there and took a nice ride around the downtown area. Finished the ride with a stop at TJ Chumps. It was a very fine day and enjoyed being out on a beautiful day. Looking forward to some cooler weather in the near future though. Distance was just under 50 miles for this trip. Its  not far to Dayton but did a lot of exploring while I was there. Lots to see in that historic city and I plan to see it in the future.

Sunday Yellow Springs Ride (July 14, 2019)

Interesting Sunday ride, with storms in the area (but got no rain at all during the ride) and rode to Fairborn which is one of my favorite area towns with a nice and fun ride to get to it. It is actually the home of the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. In fact in photos below I have some photos of the flight line there. As with the photo at left, a few abandoned places there. The theater and below a drive in and skate rink are all abandoned. There was also some police action (also below) on this otherwise quiet Sunday morning. Still my favorite time to ride with low traffic and no people running around.  Rode out toward Dayton I thought but took a wrong turn on Dayton-Yellow Springs Road. Fine with that though as I ended up in Yellow Springs. A very interesting little town and got a number of photos below from that visit. The ride was a very nice cruise and enjoyed it. It was somewhere over 50 miles and covered a lot of country roads. Was not quite sure where I was going as I went a different route via some new roads along the way, but enjoyed the journey. From Yellow Springs got back to Fairborn. Due to some road construction got to travel some new roads which fortunately got me back to Fairborn and then via the roads I know to home.

North Hampton/Battlefield Ride (July 10, 2019)

Beautiful day for a ride, and this was another short one. Rode out to North Hampton, as I had seen this very old and large building out there, and made a quick stop for a couple of photos. While out on "The National Road" (US40) I also got the photo below.
The rest of the ride was at the George Rogers Clark Park. A favorite place in the area these were taken at the battlefield and the museum there. This is a different section of the park. Being so long ago the battlefield is now just a field but some of the plaques there describe it. Very nice ride and a very interesting visit.

The "Wright" Ride (July 8, 2019)

Monday is a beautiful day to ride. Still blessed with a few days of sun, which is unique as the past few weeks have been more wet than dry. However, I do enjoy it, both for getting outside things done around the house and for getting some miles in on the motorcycle. Nothing like getting your knees in the breeze.
I went off in a different direction, heading to Beavercreek to see some sights in that direction. I ended up near Wright State, which is a college in the area. This is a photo of the bike (at left) at the Nutter Center. Sure that was some notable person but a very cool arena.
Riding on I came across the National Museum of the US Air Force. Got there via a different route and stopped for a few minutes to see some of the outside displays. This is an A-10 at the left, and directly below is a F-15. After that rode out to the Wright Memorial. There I got this photo of the memorial which was dedicated near the sight where the Wright Brothers perfected their airplane.Third photo is Huffman Dam, while Huffman Field is off to the right in the trees. I have in the past ridden the motorcycle there, sure there are some photos on this site. Stopped at a museum at the Wright memorial and got the photo of the Wright Model G. It is just a few parts but what it looked like was in the next photo. Finally a modern flight suit (well, at least in the last century) and an ejection seat. I love aviation and find these places here interesting.
It was a great ride on a beautiful day and sure enjoyed being out and about exploring new routes to favorite places.

Election Day Ride (November 5, 2024)

Rode on Election Day (voted a few days prior, unfortunately my candidate lost to the felon) and went to Tipp City under cloudy skies.  Was a...
