Once More with Feeling - Day 3 (June 28, 2021)

Third day in a row, but expecting rain the next few days (we shall see!) Rode through New Carlisle and today ran around some new roads. Interesting ride. Liked the barber shop (we used that term "Man Up" at work on the tough days) and Hairless Hare is by the airport (with awesome beer, but not open on Monday or early for that matter which I knew). Did watch some planes flying from and to the airport in Vandalia.

Rode around the lake before getting home and visited with Mama Duck and her family. Have not seen a lot of baby ducks, these are some of the first.

55 mile ride today and enjoyed every mile as usual. Whole country is dealing with the excessive heat, but up here it feels good early in the morning.

John Mellencamp "Small Town" Ride (June 27, 2021)

Off on another beautiful day, was seen off by a bunny (seen at very top just right of center). Made a stop to get the photo of the Daylillies, which are all over the area and very beautiful.

Got out for some 55 miles, saw some small towns. Made a stop at a store (not open yet, as it was an early Sunday morning) in Staunton, Ohio and saw a parade forming up in Christensburg, Ohio. There I saw the old car and the WW2 landing craft. The landing craft was a cool design because it could go from the water to land.

As always rode by a number of farms, have one to see at the very bottom of the page. It was just a wonderful day to get out. A few police were out in the country making sure there was no speeding going on. Gave a "special salute" of a one finger type to the Fuck Biden signs out there. Trump is garbage wrapped in skin. All in all a remarkable day and a fantastic Sunday ride.

Saturday Ohio Exploration (June 26, 2021)

Good 45 mile ride this fine Saturday morning. Got out into the country and took a ride up US40 to Vandalia. Rode out on Dixie Highway past Joe's Cycle Shop (a fine motorcycle shop in Dayton) and made a stop just before that at a cemetary. I was following a blue heron. Saw the baby ducks and the grave of Howard M. Rinehart. Googled him a few minutes ago, he had an interesting life.

Rode on into Dayton and around there for awhile. Last photo was taken there. Lots of interesting buildings in that town, its a fun place to explore. All said it was a wonderful ride. Got out before the heat and beat the expected showers later today.

Father's Day 2021 Ride (June 20,. 2021)

Interesting ride. Saw some aviation related items on Col. Glenn Highway (visited his former house earlier this week during a trip which is in New Concord, Ohio) near the Air Force Base. Got out next on Wright Brothers Parkway and headed out. Went through Kettering and beyond. Went down not just the roads less traveled but roads I have never seen before. Nice ride, which finally got me into Xenia. I had been there, so from there was able to get home after a nice two hour ride. Weather has not been really good (and as mentioned I was on a trip, documented on my "Ohio and Me" blog site) but enjoyed today's adventure a great deal. Fun things to see here in Ohio.

The Need for Speed (June 14, 2021)

Another beautiful day, had to bundle up a bit, which with the heat of last week and the past few days felt really good. I took a ride though Fairborn past the Air Force Base and since I was in the area took a couple of photos of planes on display outside of the Air Force Museum. That is an A-10 at left, and a C-17 just below.

Just a bit down the road I made a short stop at Eastwood lake. I rode down some backroads heading back to my house, with a short stop at Carriage Hill Farm (another favorite park. All in all a little 40 mile excursion on a beautiful Monday

Sunday Morning Covered Bridge Ride (June 13, 2021)

Longer ride than usual on a beautiful Sunday. Covered some 80 miles on this fine day. Visited a covered bridge in Fletcher, Ohio and the one at left just outside of Troy, Ohio. I also visited Piqua (seen in the photo below) and got a photo of the Troy fountain in the one below that.

Made a stop at Penny Lane in New Carlisle for a little art, music and some very fine coffee. It was cooler than it has been, and amazing blue skies to replace the rain of the past few days. Still will be a hot and humid day, but not early on as I rode from 7-10 am. Enjoyed the adventure a great deal!

Before the Rain (June10, 2021)

A quick one this morning, took this photo in the neighborhood, with a view of the Canadian geese and their babies. I really enjoy them, though the parents can be pretty aggressive if you get too close.

Speaking of getting close this morning the rain got closer and closer. I stuck fairly close to home as well, but did get out a bit for a 30 mile ride. Kept my eyes to the skies and managed to keep dry. I did rain a hour later after I got back. Good to get out on what has been a rainy few days. This weather pattern is due to break in a few days. The ride did put a smile on my face, as I often say a short ride is better than no ride at all.

Blue Skies....lets ride! (June 8, 2021)

Second day in a row, this time though with largely less clouds, got the motorcycle out for a while on this beautiful day. 68 and sunny as I headed out this morning. Really enjoying these morning rides!

Headed into Fairborn. There I visited the quiet downtown, and saw some Air Force Tankers at the base. I stopped to tank up in nearby Enon. I used to be an a Naval patrol squadron which was known as VP-17, so getting gas at VP Fuels was a kick. It was also one of the few stations under $3.15, as while riding looks like that magic barrier has been broken. Oh well...

At any case, the ride today took me to Fairborn, Enon, and Springfield. Wonderful day to get out. Expecting rain later on, and tomorrow a 90% chance of rain all day, so good to get it while I can. Looking forward to the next ride and thank you all for visiting my page.

Riding the Storm Out...once again (June 7, 2021)

After a morning walk, news on tv said rain expected at 8am. A good chance of rain all week in fact, so as it was 7am, got out for a short ride. It was a wonderful time to be out, light traffic and unlike my last attempt to do this (which ended with a light shower for me as well as the bike a few days ago) this one was a rousing and dry success. Did not see any deer but did see a number of natures wonders wandering around. Went by George Rogers Clark Park and into New Carlisle as well as past a number of farms and fields. It was a good morning to ride. I enjoyed the wind and the coolness of this fine Monday morning.

Saturday Post Mowing Ride (June 5, 2021)

Been a few days since I have been riding. For one, sprained my ankle last week, and for another we have had days of rain here. Finally though the clouds have parted and the road calls me to put my knees in the breeze once again. I mowed yesterday and today (its a fairly big yard). After that got the motorcycle out. Rode out in the country, no real destination in mind. Just cruised past some farms and fields, down some wonderful two lane roads that are easy to find here. Near the end I made a stop at the New Carlisle Airport. In between I came across the Triumph Bonneville in the photo below and snapped its photo. A bunch of riders were eating at a restaurant when I saw the bike and took that photo.

It was an excellent ride, covered some  40 miles while I was out. Nice to be back in the saddle again, and looking forward to the next adventure on two wheels.

Last Ride 2024 (November 17, 2024)

Was a fantastic year of riding, with a number of great places and fun adventures. Got out on Sunday, ran a few errands, and got in a few mil...
