A Quick One on a Cloudy Day (April 29, 2023)

Short ride under mostly gray skies with a real good chance of rain today, but the rain held off and a last ride this April. Basically, got out in the country a bit, rolled through Carriage Hill Farm (stopped for a quick photo) and then rode toward and through New Carlisle. After that down past the airport and past a few more farms on the way home.

Was a beautiful ride, and no problems along the way. Always nice to get out. Had just watched the movie "Top Gun: Maverick" for the fifth time (have it on DVD) and frankly I just felt the need..the need for speed. Thanks for visiting my page and going along for the ride!

History Ride (April 27, 2023)

Once again as was the case yesterday, got out into New Carlisle. The difference was that this time I got in a longer ride, just over double from yesterday. Photo above is the grain storage facility there  and below the New Carlisle Cemetary. That is a Union Civil War monument there in the center background. Had a good time there

Also visited the site of the Battle of Piqua which was a battle between Kentucky forces and various Indian tribes in the late 1800's. It was an interesting place.

Was a very good ride. Looking forward to the next one, though will be a few days away.

Short Putt (April 26, 2023)

Got out for a bit, will not be able to ride next week (more on that when you visit my "Ohio and Me" page in a few days) and of late thats been tough too.

We have been getting below normal cold, and also more than normal rain of late. Been awhile since my last ride, but did get the motorcycle out for a bit today. It was cooler than I would have hoped, but at least it was sunny. Rode out to New Carlisle, Ohio where I needed to take care of a few things. No better way to get things done than on two wheels. Was a short ride but a good time.

Covered Bridge Ride (April 20, 2023)

Covered a day later many of the same roads as yesterday's ride but this time went further. I rode out to just outside of Troy, Ohio to visit the Eldean Covered Bridge. It is located between Troy and Piqua, Ohio. Dates to 1860 and can be seen in the photo at left and in the two photos directly below. It is in very good shape and is a cool structure to visit. Not my first time to do so, and certainly not my last.

Rode out there starting around 10am, beautiful day and very light traffic. Fun riding past the farms and the farm animals, and really enjoyed the ride.

In Troy, Ohio took a photo of the Courthouse there. Very cool building is the Miami County Courthouse. Was built in 1885 and is a striking building. One of the things I have noted here is that Ohio has some very interesting and beautiful buildings.

The oldest surviving building in Troy is directly below. The Overfield Tavern dates to 1808. It is now a museum but remains a very cool and historic building.

If you are interested, the historical marker which tells the story of the tavern can be found at the bottom of these photos.

It was a great ride and some remarkable weather for this time of year these past two days. Thank you for visiting my pages.

Knees in the Breeze (April 19, 2023)

Good day out, temperature was in the 70's and the sun was shining under clear blue skies. Got out for a ride out in the country just south of Troy, Ohio. Rode down some new roads once again and saw some sights along the way. Stopped at this park to get the photo at left.

Had done some maintenance on the bike, so was sort of a test ride. All went perfect and had a great time out exploring the area.

Planning to get back out tomorrow and see some more sights in this area.

Before the Storm (April 16, 2023)

Expecting some serious rain for the next couple of days. Still some fantastic weather and decided to get out once more. Rode down some new roads, that is the best part of being in a new area (which Ohio still is to me) and saw some new and different sights. Rolled down some back roads and visited with some of the local farm animals. Think the cows in the bottom photo were having a meeting.

Anyhow, was a fine time to get out with mostly clear blue skies though with building clouds as the ride went on, and warm temperatures. Storms though are in Indiana, and are heading this way.

Purpose Ride 2 (April 15, 2023)

Had a couple of things to do, and no better way to do it than on 2 wheels. Stopped along the way to check out some cows in a field. Peaceful creatures and fun to see. I also after making two stops in New Carlisle, stopped at the airport and watched this plane do some touch and goes. Zipped around the area for a while and finally made a last stop at a local lake before heading home. The temperature in the 60's was perfect, the humidity was low and so was the morning traffic. It was a perfect morning for a ride in the countryside.

Ride of Purpose (April 13, 2023)

A warmer than usual day for this time of year, and got out on the motorcycle. Spring is certainly in the air, some of the flowers are blooming at the house behind the Triumph. Rode to Enon to make a stop there, and then via some good backroads to Tipp City. That was not the final destination though, made a last stop with purpose at my dentist in Huber Heights. After that, rode back with a stop to see the new Warped Wing Brewery under construction and stopped at TJ Chumps for refreshment. Then through Carriage Hill Farm and home. A wonderful ride!

Easter Ride (April 9, 2023)

Different route from yesterday's ride, made pair of stops at Carriage Hill Farm where I got the photos at left and below...nice to visit with horses. Nice also to be on my steel pony! Once again as it was yesterday enjoyed temperatures in the low 60's but also clear blue skies as the previous day.

Rode down some country roads and into Huber Heights. Did 40 miles yesterday, just 30 miles today but it was a good day to ride. Being Easter Sunday and before noon, traffic was really light, It was another fantastic ride and had a wonderful time.

North Hampton Ride and Surrounding Area (April 8, 2023)

Rode on a beautiful Saturday out via some country roads into part of Springfield, Ohio and out toward North Hampton where I stopped and took this photo.

Nice ride past some farms and fields, with a touch of town along the way. Was a beautiful day to ride, still a bit cool with temperature in the low 60's but a wonderful day to get out. I was not alone as a number of bikes were out as well, and exchanged a few waves as I rode past them.

Weather has been of late really iffy, but got a few great days ahead. It is looking like Spring is finally here at last.

Critter Ride (April 3, 2023)

Best temperatures I have seen so far this year for a ride. It was in the low 70's and late afternoon when I headed out. Rode out to George Rogers Clark Park just outside of Springfield. There I rode through the park but also made a photo stop at the house there.

Back in the day (the 18oo's to be exact) this was a homestead and in the middle of that century this house was built. Very cool that it is still standing all these years later.

From there headed on down the road...

Went just into Springfield, and then rode out Highway 68. Came across a favorite place which is Young's Dairy which is just outside of Yellow Springs. There visited with the farm animals, and even gave some snacks from machines there to a goat. Wonderful place and enjoy taking my wife there too. Today though it was just for the ride.

Rode back via backroads and farms to the house. It was a fantastic ride and a beautiful day for it. Tomorrow may be another great day to ride, and that is my hope!

"Halloween" Ride (October 30,2024)

Due to a rainy and windy Halloween Day forecast, got out the day early on October 30, to take a last look at the decorations (of which only ...
